When an asbestos roof comes down, the job is only half done. The waste is hazardous, and the law says where it may go. This is what happens to it when Steen Agencies does the work.
The rule
Asbestos waste must never be dumped, burned, broken up or reused. It may only be buried at a disposal site licensed by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
Step 1: Wrapped on site
As each sheet comes down by hand, it is double-wrapped in heavy plastic of 500 to 1000 micron, sealed and labelled. Nothing leaves your property unwrapped.
Step 2: Carried by our own team
We load the wrapped sheets into our own vehicles. Our own team transports them, under our licence to transport asbestos waste, so the waste never passes through anyone else’s hands.
Step 3: Buried at our licensed site
The waste goes to our own NEMA-licensed disposal site in Kaloleni Subcounty, Kilifi County, where it is buried safely. An Environmental Impact Assessment has been completed for the site.
Step 4: Your papers
After disposal, you receive a tracking document and a completion certificate. Keep them with your property records: they show that your asbestos was removed and disposed of legally. The tracking document shows, the date, property address, type of waste taken, the amount of waste , registered transport details and the disposal site acknowledgement of receivership of the asbestos.
Why this matters to you
If asbestos from your building is dumped illegally, it can harm people for years. Choosing a contractor who controls every step, from your roof to the disposal site, protects your family, your staff, your neighbours and your name.
